Overview
There is a low pressure system over SE Texas with a stationary front stretched along the Gulf Coast. A cold front that continues to fizzle out runs through the NE US & Ohio River valley. There is also a trough over the Northern Plains.
Discussion
Today we have been seeing cloudy skies across Western North Dakota with a chilly feel and temps climbed through the 20s and into the 30s. Central North Dakota has been seeing more scattered light snow.
Across the region a front continues to fizzle out with scattered snow over the Dakotas. In our area, snow is mainly affecting Central North Dakota. The western third of our state has seen very little snow during this event. However, cloudy skies and a continued moderate to strong wind out of the Northwest have made it feel chilly through the past couple of days. Scattered snow moved very little (on radar) through the day and there was a continued light to moderate breeze out of the NW. Naturally, snowfall totals will differ due to some drifting & blowing snow. Nevertheless, a light accumulation affected most of Central & Western ND. Earlier this afternoon, measurements fell in line with yesterday's forecast of 1"-3" for Central North Dakota. Use caution while driving tonight. This light snow event has made travel conditions hazardous in parts of our area. Add extra time for stopping.
