Thursday's Weather Blog

Overview
There is a low pressure system over the Great Lakes region that will continue to move East & SE, toward the Ohio River valley. A weak front is stretched through the Northern Plains and continuing to fizzle out. A stationary front is stretched along the Gulf Coast with a low pressure system that brought a risk for severe weather to affected areas.

Discussion
Across the area today we have been seeing cloudy skies across Western North Dakota with a cool feel and temps climbing into the 30s. Central & Eastern North Dakota has been seeing some scattered light snow. Though nothing to worry about, this off/on snow has been a little bit of a nuisance. Temperatures did not go far and highs ranged through the 30s for the most part.

A weak cold front is stretched through the region and is associated with scattered light snow showers/flurries. Through most of the day, this area of scattered light snow has not moved very far. Couple the flurry activity with breezy conditions and we have seen reduced visibility at times. As this front continues to slowly move West & Southwest, it will be dissipating over the Dakotas. So, during the next couple of days, we will continue to be affected by it. This means scattered light snow will be off/on and hit & miss. The good news is that we will begin to see winds calm down a bit and in the end, only light accumulations are expected. Most of Western ND will see less than 1" of snow. Central & Eastern ND may see 1"-3".

Headlines for this evening include mostly cloudy skies with scattered light snow showers and a cool feel as a slow moving, weak front dissipates over the Dakotas. Overnight and into tomorrow, chills will be in the teens & 20s as winds begin to calm down.

Through the rest of tonight & Friday
Expect mostly cloudy skies with a chance for scattered light snow showers/flurries. There will also be a light to moderate wind out of the West and NW. With temps falling through the 20s, this breeze will make it will feel like it is in the teens and lower double digits for most of tonight.
Tomorrow, we will start the day off with a chilly feel. So, grab a jacket. Make sure you are also prepared for another round of scattered light snow & flurries. This prolonged chance for light snow will last into tomorrow night before we see tapering snow chances. It will feel cool through most of the day with a light to moderate wind and temps in the 30s.
