Overview
There is a weak low pressure system that is redeveloping on the lee side of the Rockies, over the Northern Plains. A secondary low will begin to develop over the Central Plains tomorrow. Elsewhere, a stationary front is stretched from the Great Lakes region, through the upper- Midwest and into the Northern Plains. A broad ridge of high pressure is anchored over the northern- Gulf of Mexico and bringing warmer temps mostly clear skies and pleasant conditions to most of the SE U.S. and much of the Mid & Southern Atlantic coastline.
Discussion
Today we saw partly to mostly cloudy skies across Western North Dakota with temps that were above average and climbed into a mild and even warm range for parts of our area. There was a broad range of temps across the state with daytime highs ranging from the lower 40s to the 70s. Across the state, there has been some scattered light rain/snow. Not all of it has been hitting the ground but some of us got a little wet.
Across the Northern Plains, a low pressure system will continue to redevelop on the lee side of the Rockies. This system will move through the Northern Plains during the next couple of days, bringing a chance for off/on rain & snow to our area. After it clears out, there will be some light accumulation in the northern half of the state. Totals of 1"-3" are expected with higher accumulations, North. Most of SW ND will see less than 1".

Headlines for this evening include mostly cloudy skies with some clearing and winds becoming breezy at times. Scattered rain and snow will move through the area tomorrow and into early Wednesday, as a weak system moves across the Dakotas. This system will also bring temperatures into a more seasonable range during the next couple of days, as well. The latter half of the work week will bring another system, breezy conditions and light snow accumulations possible.
Through the rest of tonight & Monday
Overnight, expect partly to mostly cloudy skies with a few (hit & miss) rain/snow showers across the state, but not everyone will see precip. Winds will begin to calm down a bit as they remain out of the East and temperatures will fall through the 40s, to either side of 30 for a low. By tomorrow morning, it will be a little chilly.
Tuesday, expect increasing clouds with a chance for rain and snow. Daytime highs will not be as pleasant today but still above average, topping out in the 40s with a few 50s. Winds will become breezy and a little gusty at times.
7day planner
During the next couple of days temps will gradually fall with more cloud cover, less sunshine and scattered precip. Hit & miss shower activity will continue into tonight. So, keep your umbrella handy. Through Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, expect scattered light rain/snow mix. As we go back into an active weather pattern with two passing systems this week, temperatures will cool off and warm up quickly. By this weekend, we will see temps climb back into the 50s & 60s with plenty of sunshine and low rain chances, into the beginning of next week.
Tonight, we will see mostly cloudy skies with some clearing and a few light rain/snow showers. Lows 24-32 with an East wind 2-12mph, becoming NE.
Tuesday, expect partly to mostly cloudy skies with increasing clouds and a few scattered rain/snow showers. Highs 40-48 with a NE wind 10-20mph G25.
Tuesday night, cloudy skies will continue with scattered rain/snow showers. Lows 20-27 with a NE wind 10-20mph G25.
Wednesday, there will be a few scattered snow/mix showers early followed by tapering precip chances and clearing skies. Highs 34-43 with a NE wind 5-15mph and a little gusty at times.
Wednesday night, expect continued clearing and a chilly feel. Lows will be on either side of 20 with a light wind out of the East.
