Overview
There is a low pressure system over the Northern Plains bringing scattered rain/snow showers & a few thunderstorms to affected areas. A low continues to develop over the Great Lakes region with a cold front stretched south along the Mississippi River valley and into the Southern Plains. Meanwhile, a broad ridge of high pressure is anchored over much of the Western half of our nation.
Discussion
Today we saw partly to mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain/snow showers and a few thunderstorms. A series of severe thunderstorm warnings was issued for our first significant storm of the season. Winds were strong across most of Western ND & parts of Central ND today. Highs were in the 50s & 60s in Western & Central ND. The warm spot on the map was buffalo at 62.
Across the Northern Plains, there is a low pressure system that will continue moving through the Dakotas. Closer to home we have been seeing mostly to partly cloudy skies with scattered rain and a few thunderstorms associated with a passing low, this evening. In Eastern ND there is still some light snow.
Headlines include a departing system that is moving through the Northern Plains. Expect rain chances to taper off tonight, followed by clearing skies. Winds will calm down tonight before picking back up tomorrow.
Through the rest of tonight & Thursday
This system will continue to roll through our area tonight with rain chances tapering off, followed by gradual clearing. Temperatures will not move much, falling into a cool range. Most of us will see lows in the 30s with a few 20s on the map. Tomorrow we will continue to see some clearing with winds picking back up and becoming gusty, again. Temperatures will be seasonable, topping out in the 50s with a few 40s. Nevertheless, expect more sunshine.

This active weather pattern will calm down as the second of two clippers moves out of our area tonight & early Thursday. We will see tapering rain chances followed by gradually clearing skies and seasonable temps during the rest of our work week. This weekend will bring a relatively quiet weather pattern with warmer temps to go along with more sunshine. Through the beginning of the work week, expect continued sunshine and temps in the 50s.
Tonight, expect tapering rain chances and gradually clearing skies. Lows 33-41 with moderate to strong winds out of the NW (10-20mph & Gusty). 30% chance for rain.
Thursday will bring with it continued clearing, resulting in mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies and it will still be breezy. Highs 47-56 with a NW wind 20-30mph G40.
Thursday night, expect fair to partly cloudy skies with wind speeds starting to taper off and a cool feel. Lows 23-30 with a NW wind 5-15mph.
Friday we will see plenty of sunshine with in & out light clouds and seasonable temps. Highs will be on either side of 50 with a North/NE wind 5-15mph.
Friday night, expect fair to partly cloudy skies with a cool feel. Lows will be in the 20s with a North/East wind 2-12mph.
