Overview
There is a low pressure system over the Northern Plains bringing scattered rain & snow to affected areas. Meanwhile, a broad ridge of high pressure is anchored over much of the Eastern half of our nation.
Discussion
Today we saw partly cloudy skies with increasing cover and moderate to strong winds. Temperatures have been well above average for most of the area with cooler air to our West. Highs were in the 50s & 60s. The warm area on the map was Central ND. Mobridge got up to 67.
Across the Northern Plains, there is a low pressure system that continues to develop as it is moving through the Dakotas. This clipper has been bringing scattered rain with a few thunderstorms, through the day. Overnight, the back edge of this system will bring light snow & rain showers through the area. In the wake of this clipper, we will see some clearing and cooling temperatures. A second clipper will move through the area tomorrow during the afternoon & overnight hours. This system will also bring scattered rain with a few thunderstorms, mainly to Central & Eastern ND.
Headlines include a low pressure system that is moving through the Northern Plains. Expect mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain/snow showers and a few thunderstorms. Winds will remain moderate to strong and very gusty. This active weather pattern will wrap up as we go into the latter half of the work week.
Through the rest of tonight & Wednesday
This system will continue to roll through our area tonight with rain & snow chances tapering off after Midnight, followed by some clearing. Winds will remain moderate to strong and gusty, but calming enough for active high wind alerts to expire tonight. Temperatures will fall through the 30s and into the 20s for some. After Noon on Wednesday, a second clipper will move through the state mainly affecting Eastern & Central North Dakota before we see more clearing on Thursday. Temperatures will climb to either side of 60 with another round of strong winds through the day.

We will continue to see an active weather pattern with the highest threats coming from winds, during the next couple of days. Nevertheless, rain chances will be off/on as two clippers move through the Northern Plains tonight & Wednesday. Thursday will bring gradual clearing skies and slightly cooler temps. By Friday and going into the weekend, expect plenty of sunshine with a few clouds, winds becoming breezy at times and temps climbing back into the 60s.
Tonight, will bring with it increasing clouds and rising chances for rain & snow with a few thunderstorms possible. Lows 27-34 with strong & gusty winds out of the West/North (20-30mph G45+). 60% chance for rain/snow showers.
Wednesday, after rain/snow chances taper off early expect in & out clouds with continued gusty winds. Through the afternoon & evening hours, expect increasing clouds and rising chances for showers with a few thunderstorms possible. Highs 55-65 with a NW/West wind 10-20mph. 30% chance for rain.
Wednesday night, expect tapering rain chances and gradually clearing skies. Lows 33-41 with moderate to strong winds out of the NW (10-20mph & Gusty). 30% chance for rain.
Thursday will bring with it continued clearing, resulting in mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies and it will still be breezy. Highs in the 50s with a NW wind 15-25mph G35.
