Overview
There is a ridge of high pressure over the East Coast and a low pressure system continues to develop over the Central Plains. Closer to home there is a low moving across the Northern Plains bringing rain & snow to affected areas.
Discussion
A weak low will continue to move to the SE, through the Dakotas. Today, temperatures topped out on either side of 40 with off/on snow and wintry mix. Through most of the day, temperatures were above freezing which means that this system will result in little to no accumulation. This evening, temperatures fell below freezing and less than 1” accumulated across parts of our area. Tonight we will see tapering snow chances before Midnight. As snow chances come to an end, fog will begin to develop. Early this evening we were already seeing limited visibility due to fog in parts of western ND. Where fog does develop, remember that temperatures will be falling below the freezing mark. This means that freezing fog/drizzle will be possible for some in our area. Road conditions will be hazardous tonight and tomorrow morning.
Our next chance for snow and wintry mix will move through the area Thursday night. A second clipper will cross the Northern Plains, bringing us more clouds and a chance for rain/snow. By the end of the work week, we will see clearing skies and temps will warm through the 50s and into the 60s by Sunday.
Through the rest of tonight & Thursday
Tonight we will see tapering snow chances with cloudy skies. As snow showers end, fog will continue to develop. By tomorrow morning we will be looking at the chance for reduced visibility due to lingering fog and continued hazardous road conditions, for some. Temps will settle in the 20s for most of the area with a light wind swinging around to the SE. Tomorrow will bring some clearing through the mid-day with increasing clouds through the evening. Our next clipper system will move through the Dakotas Thursday night, bringing a chance for scattered rain/snow as a weak low quickly moves through the Dakotas.
