Overview
A broad ridge of high pressure is anchored over most of the East coast. There is a developing low over Texas that will bring a risk for severe weather to parts of the Southern Plains. A stationary front is stretched North-South along the lee side of the Rockies. There is another low pressure system that continues to develop over the Northern Plains.
Discussion
Today, we saw partly to mostly cloudy skies with in & out cover and scattered light rain, but not many areas got wet. Temperatures were well above average and climbed through the 40s and into the 50s. A few parts of the area had highs in the 60s & even 70s, but no records were broken. However, parts of the state did come close to setting new records for daytime highs.
A weak low will continue to develop over South Dakota and move East & NE. As this system moves across the Dakotas we will start to see a chance for scattered rain tonight. Parts of Southwest ND may see a few thunderstorms, none of which are expected to become strong. Rain chances will continue through much of Tuesday morning. Showers will be scattered and some AM temps may fall close to the freezing mark, resulting in a mix. This low will move out of the Dakotas tomorrow through the late morning and the mid-day hours. In the wake of this system we will see in & out clouds followed by another weak trough, Tuesday night. Wednesday, skies will clear out, followed by warming temperatures through the later half of the work week.
Through the rest of tonight & Tuesday
Overnight we will see partly to mostly cloudy skies with increasing cover and a chance for scattered rain. Temperatures will not cool much, falling through the 30s with parts of Western ND dropping to either side of 30. After Midnight, shower activity will pick up in Central & Eastern ND. Tomorrow morning, we will see tapering chances for rain, followed by gradually clearing skies before another weak trough moves through the Dakotas. Daytime highs will be well into the 40s and even into the 50s for some.
