Monday's Weather Blog

11:30pm

Overview
There is a strong low pressure system over the SE U.S. that brought severe weather to affected areas, earlier today. A ridge of high pressure is building in the wake of this system. Another weaker low is over the Central Plains. A pair of quick moving & weaker lows is also over the Northern Plains and continuing to develop.

Discussion
A developing low pressure system over the Dakotas will continue to move SE and out of our area. This system brought a lot of cloud cover and scattered rain/snow to much of the state, today. Through tonight any rain/mix will transition to snow and continue to move SE through Central & Eastern ND. Most of what is showing up on radar does not look impressive. So, any accumulations will be very light through most of our area. Tonight, winds will become moderate to strong (out of the NW) and gusty. This windy timeframe will be between two lows that are forecast to bring light snow to most of the area. Overnight, there is a chance for a few passing flurries/light snow showers and there will be some clearing as winds pick up. Nevertheless, through tomorrow morning, we will see increasing clouds followed by our next chance for snow.

A second low will continue to redevelop on the lee side of the Rockies (over Montana) and move into Western, ND during the midday & afternoon hours tomorrow as rain/mix.
Through the afternoon & evening hours scattered snow will move through the state. Accumulations are expected to be light for areas along& South/West of the Missouri River valley seeing less than 1" of new snow. East of the Missouri, 1"-3" is possible with higher totals being hit & miss and further East.

Through the rest of tonight & Tuesday
Expect tapering snow chances as a low pressure system moves SE and away from our area. Temperatures will stay well above average, only falling into the 20s. Winds will become moderate and breezy at times especially South& West of the Missouri River. Through the rest of the night we will see some clearing, followed by more clouds and another round of rain/snow chances, through Tuesday night. Tomorrow, expect rising chances for rain/snow after Noon (West). Rain/mix will become snow as it moves West to East through the afternoon & evening hours. Highs will be in the 30s with a light to moderate wind swinging around to the SE.

7day planner
An active weather pattern will continue with a brief cool down tomorrow and scattered snow through Tuesday night. Wednesday & Thursday will bring a warmer air mass with mild temps through the end of the work week. Thursday through Saturday temperatures will climbing to the upper 40s and lower 50s.

Tonight, expect mostly cloudy skies with tapering snow/rain chances as a weak low moves out of the Dakotas. Lows 23-29 with a moderate wind out of the NW & gusty at times. chills in the teens & 20s.
