Overview
A low pressure system over the Northern Plains is moving East and will pass just South of North Dakota. This system will cause a light snow event across our viewing area. Elsewhere a secondary low is over the Great Lakes Region. A ridge of high pressure continues to move East from the SE US and over the Atlantic Ocean.

Discussion
An approaching low pressure system will move from the west to the east across South Dakota. There is currently snow just north of this low and it will continue to produce snowfall through the overnight hours and tomorrow. Snow will start for North Dakota around midnight and will move through the state through the day, tomorrow. Most of us will see a light to moderate snow that will be off/on at times. This system will produce a Trace - 3" of fresh snow. Across the state, accumulations will vary. In our area, most of us will see 1"-3". This system will knock temps down to lows in the teens & 20s with highs in the 30s through the weekend. This will not be a major snow storm. For the most part, highest accumulations will fall between Highway 200 & Highway 2. This brings the main axis of snowfall a little further North than earlier tonight.

Through the afternoon & evening hours this system will dissipate and fizzle out from the West to the East. Saturday & Sunday there will be a lull in the action. Expect in & out clouds with temps slightly above average for this time of the year, but not as warm as last week. The beginning of the work-week will bring another front with even more snow. This second front, Monday night & Tuesday, will knock temps back into a seasonable range.
Through the rest of tonight & Friday
Cloudy skies will remain in play with a light wintry mix/freezing rain possible before Midnight and through the early morning hours. During this same time snow will begin to move into Western, North Dakota from the Southwest. There will be a light to moderate wind making it feel 5-10 degrees below the actual temperature. Through Friday we will continue to see a light to moderate snow event while bringing temps into a much cooler range. Friday, snowfall will be off/on through the midday and afternoon. Snow chances will taper off during the late afternoon and evening hours.

7day planner
Friday will bring our next chance for accumulating snow with a cold front. Saturday & Sunday we will see more sun shining through the clouds with temperatures closer to where they should be for this time of the year. Monday night & Tuesday a second front will move through the Northern Plains bringing another chance for accumulating snow. After this second front, temps will return to the seasonable norm (BIS avg. 7/27).
