There is a low pressure system over the upper- Midwest & Great Lakes region. This system is moving East. A cold front is stretched south, through the Midwest and along the Mississippi River. This cold front connects with a secondary low over Texas. This second low will continue to develop as it moves into the lower- Mississippi River valley and Southeast U.S. Over the Central & Northern Plains, there is a ridge of high pressure and another low is developing over Alberta and will move toward the Northern Plains.

Discussion
Across the area today we have been seeing clearing skies leading to plenty of sunshine by sun set, on this Hump-day. As skies cleared temps warmed a bit and are in a seasonable range. Today, highs ranged around the seasonable average, from the upper 50s through the low 70s with warmer conditions on the Western side of the state. In Bismarck there was a high of 67 and a low of 48 and in Dickinson, a high of 66 and a low of 44. Temperatures were slightly below average for this time of the year.

In the wake of a low pressure system, skies will stay mostly clear tonight with temps falling well into the 40s. A ridge of high pressure will move over our area, briefly. Tomorrows sunshine and warming temperatures will be interrupted by a front that will continue to develop as it moves through the area. During the morning and midday hours (Thursday) we will see increasing clouds, followed by rising rain chances with showers and scattered thunderstorms developing during the afternoon & evening hours. This quick moving clipper will speed through the Dakotas tomorrow night and early Friday morning. In the wake of this passing system, expect clearing skies with rain chances coming to an end as skies become sunny. A broad ridge of high pressure will then anchor its self over our area through the weekend and into the beginning of the work week. Winds will become breezy through Sunday and rain chances will stay low through most of the 7day planner.

Headlines include in & out clouds and starting out with plenty of sunshine and a cool feel, tomorrow. Rain chances will return Thursday afternoon & into Friday with a chance for thunderstorms as our next system moves through the area and this weekend will bring sunshine with warming temperatures.

Through the rest of tonight & Thursday
This evening we will continue to see clearing skies as winds begin to calm down and swing around to the Southeast. It will feel cool as temperatures fall back into the 40s and winds become light & variable. Tomorrow will bring a few more changes. We will start off with plenty of sunshine. Expect increasing clouds through the midday & afternoon hours. Temperatures will climb through the 70s and to either side of 80 as winds remain light to moderate out of the South & Southeast. Late tomorrow, through the overnight hours, a front will move through with a good chance for shower & thunderstorm activity.
