Overview
There is a weak low pressure system over the Great Lakes region & Northeast U.S. and a cold front is stretched back, into the Midwest. A Second low is over the Southern & Central Plains, bringing a slight risk for severe weather to some affected areas. Elsewhere, a stationary front is stretched along the Gulf Coast and a ridge of high pressure is over Canada and extending over the Northern Plains.
Discussion
Across the area today we saw mostly clear skies with a few clouds and even more sunshine is in the forecast. Late today, the little bit of cloud cover that we were seeing moved out of our area and highs were in the 60s & 70s. The warm area on the map was Northwest North Dakota and south of our area. Mobridge topped out with a high of 74. This pleasant feel will remain a theme through this week with gradually warming temperatures. Low rain chances are expected until our next cold front moves into the area; that will be toward the end of our 7day planner.
A Canadian ridge of high pressure is extended over the Dakotas. This system will anchor its self over the area through the next several days. Continued ridging will bring more sunshine mixed with some light cloud cover and a rain-free forecast through the work week. Day by day, temperatures will continue to climb with highs becoming unseasonably warm and topping out around 80. Winds will begin to increase during the mid-week and become breezy by Thursday & Friday. This quiet weather pattern will continue until rain chances start to pick up, this weekend.
Headlines include a ridge of high pressure that will anchor its self over our area. Expect plenty of sunshine with a few in & out clouds through the next couple of days. Temperatures will climb into an unseasonably warm range due to sunshine and the lack of rain chances.
Through the rest of tonight & Tuesday
We will see mostly clear skies with temperatures falling through the 40s and into the 30s overnight. Winds will be light, calming down as they swing around to the Southeast & South. By Tuesday morning, expect a chilly start with plenty of sunshine and temperatures quickly climbing through the 60s & into the lower to mid 70s for most of the area. Daytime highs will be slightly above average for this time of the year with a rain-free forecast.
