There is a closed low pressure system over Saskatchewan (just north of Eastern Montana). This low is stationary and continuing to spin to our Northwest. A second weak low is developing over the Montana/Wyoming border. A cold front that moved through the Dakotas on Sunday will continue to move East and away from our area. Over the Southern & Central Plains a third low will continue to develop as it moves to the North & East, bringing a risk for severe weather with it.

Discussion
Across the area today we started off with plenty of sunshine, followed by in & out light clouds. Scattered rain began to develop through the afternoon & evening hours with a few isolated thunderstorms around sunset. Temperatures climbed through the 60s & 70s and either side of 80, topping out above average for this time of the year. The warm area on the map was Eastern, North Dakota. Fargo got up to 84 degrees with a few more lower 80s on the map. Warmer temps will continue tomorrow before rain chances pick up.
The closed low pressure system over Saskatchewan will slowly move to the East and into Manitoba during the next couple of days. Elsewhere, a weak piece of energy is bringing showers & thunderstorms to parts of our area. This activity will continue to move through Central & Eastern ND tonight tomorrow morning. Rain chances will taper off around sunrise with some clearing expected through the morning. By the afternoon & evening hours (Tuesday) rain chances will remain low with in & out clouds, but few hit & miss showers/storms will be possible. Though some rain is expected tomorrow, most of our area will remain dry. Tuesday night, a chance for scattered rain & thunderstorms will be back in the forecast.
A quick moving low pressure system will continue to develop as it moves into the Dakotas, from the west. This approaching system will bring rising rain chances through Wednesday morning. Wednesday afternoon & evening, our developing low will absorb the Canadian low (moving East, just north of the Dakotas). The two joined systems will move through the Northern Plains bringing a likely chance for showers & thunderstorms. Some of Wednesday's storms could become strong with damaging winds and hail possible for some. However, the threat for severe weather will remain low at this time. Rain chances will taper off on Thursday.

Through the rest of tonight & Tuesday
We will see partly to mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers & a few thunderstorms. Temperatures will fall into a mild range with a light to moderate wind out of the South. Winds will continue to calm down, becoming light. Tomorrow will start off with scattered showers & a few thunderstorms in parts of our area. Through the day, we will see in & out clouds with temperatures climbing through the 70s and back to either side of 80. Some scattered rain will be possible again, after Midnight. Bottom line, you may need a rain jacket or umbrella during the morning commute and it will be warm with a few hit & miss showers through the day.

7day planner

Thursday's Weather Blog

9:00pm

Overview
There is a strong low pressure system over Southeast Texas and the lower- Mississippi River valley. This system is bringing a risk for severe weather to affected areas. A stationary front stretches East from this system to the Atlantic Ocean. A second low is beginning to develop on the lee side of the Rockies over the Northern Plains. Elsewhere, a broad ridge of high pressure is anchored over the Great Lakes region and is stretched over the Northeast U.S., Ohio River valley, Midwest and into the Central & Northern Plains.

The warm area on the map was Northwest, North Dakota. Minot & Williston got up to 84 degrees. This pleasantly warm feel will remain a theme through the next couple of days as temps continue to climb.

A ridge of high pressure over the Great Lakes region & Ohio River valley is stretched over the Dakotas. As this system drifts to the East, we will start to see more changes in our to our weather. More clouds will roll into the area and there will be a slight chance for afternoon showers. Isolated thunderstorms will be possible during the next couple of days. Temperatures will continue to climb through the 70s and into the lower to mid 80s for some. This dry and unseasonably warm pattern will be interrupted by a system as it moves through the Northern Plains Saturday night through Monday morning. A low pressure system will re-develop on the lee side of the Rockies. This system will stay to our west Friday & most of Saturday as a strong and broad ridge of high pressure slowly moves East. By Saturday afternoon and overnight, this ridge of high pressure will give way to a stronger/developing low pressure system. During this time, southerly winds will pick up significantly. Friday & Saturday, the strengthening low to our west & strong high to our east will push & pull at each other. This action will allow winds to pick up and become moderate to strong and very gusty for some. I would not be surprised if a few Wind Advisories are issued in parts of our area.

This developing low pressure system will move into the Dakotas late Saturday & Saturday night. At this point, thunderstorm activity will be limited for the first round. By Sunday, thunderstorms will move out of Western ND and through Central & Eastern ND. Both rounds of thunderstorm activity have the potential to become severe. We will continue to monitor this event as we get closer and update everyone as the low approaches our area.
In-house Model Guidance (4km RPM)
